SucraShield Facts

History of SucraShield

Sucrose Octanoate Esters (SOE), the active ingredient in SucraShield, is compliant with the USDA National Organic Program and is allowed for use in organic production of crops, ornamentals, landscape, trees and shrubs. SOE is produced naturally in the hairs of tobacco leaves. Tobacco, an indigenous plant to North America has been known to exist since around 6000 BC, and contributed to the early economic development of the United States.

Tobacco leaves have long been known to prevent attacks by mites and certain insect pests. The reason was unclear until researchers discovered the naturally inherent insecticidal properties of tobacco leave hairs. Based on a combination of sucrose, a sugar which is a regular part of the diet of humans and animals, as well as a fatty acid, derived from edible oil, SucraShield was able to capture it in a highly effective, concentrated form.

SucraShield Use Specs

Use this product as a foliar spray to control or suppress soft-bodied insects. Apply as soon as infestation occurs.
The application will appear to be a clear coating which protects the plant from further damage.

SucraShield is non-corrosive, and can be tank mixed with other insecticides and fungicides. Jar tests should be performed if there are any compatibility concerns.

SucraShield is not phytotoxic to plants at labeled rates. However, the addition of certain surfactants may cause damage. SucraShield requires good agitation and will separate in the tank with no agitation. Simply agitate and SucraShield will go right back into solution. Repeat applications, as necessary at intervals of 7-10 days to maintain control.

Apply up to and including day of harvest.
Use 0.8% to 1.0% v/v solution of this product, depending on severity of infestation.

Use between 25 and 400 gallons of total mix volume per acre (43,560 sq ft) to achieve adequate coverage, depending on plant growth stage and spacing as well as insect infestation level and size.
